Understanding what already has been deployed is crucial if companies are going to be
successful managing their infrastructure. This might sound obvious, but experts say it's
not always done.
Gartner analyst John Phelps says many companies don't know where all their servers are
located, who controls and owns them, and the main functions and applications running on
them.
Blue-Dot performs discovery services for companies to give them a clear picture of what they
currently have. Helix agents are deployed throughout the network and information about the
infrastructure is sent to the Agnesi configuration database.
An architecture map of the environment is created for the customer. As long as the Helix
agents continue to collect data the architecture is maintained. Auto-discovery of all
changes in the network is reported back to the central database for the customer's use.
Component level data that is discovered include:
Network:
Routers
Switches
Network Links
Ports
Hub
Firewalls
Servers:
RAM
Processors
Disk
Network Connectivity
Operating System
Software
